Diagnostic classification: CSBD in the ICD-11, the behavioural-addiction debate, and impulse-control disorders.
Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Disorder (CSBD) is a diagnostic category in the ICD-11 describing a persistent pattern of failure to control intense, repetitive sexual impulses or urges that causes marked distress or significant impairment.
Impulse control disorders are a group of conditions characterized by difficulty resisting an impulse, drive, or temptation to perform an act that is harmful to oneself or others. The ICD-11 places CSBD in this chapter.
The behavioural addiction debate is the ongoing scientific disagreement over whether certain behaviours — including compulsive sexual behaviour and problematic pornography use — should be classified and treated as addictions, and what the evidence supports.
